Our Board Recruitment Goals

We’re seeking board members who bring diverse lived experiences, thoughtful perspective, strong communication skills, and a commitment to responsible stewardship. Our board helps guide the organization’s vision and plays an active role in developing initiatives, partnerships, funding opportunities, and programs that strengthen community resilience and support long-term economic vitality across our creative sector.

We welcome individuals who are excited to contribute their skills and leadership. Experience in any of the following areas is especially valuable:

• Community development, economic development, or program design
• Facilitation, collaborative leadership, and strategic planning
• Nonprofit governance, policy, and advocacy
• Diversity, equity, and inclusion practices
• Administrative systems (document management, communications, scheduling)
• Financial oversight, budgeting, and/or grant management
• Knowledge of and connections within local community networks
• Event planning, outreach, and marketing
• Technology, IT, or website support
• Fund development and fundraising

Above all, we’re looking for people who care deeply about the well-being of Downtown Olympia and are ready to invest their time, insight, and energy into building a more resilient and vibrant creative community.

Board Member Duties

Here is some information about what board member volunteers do for DOCD:

• Our board meets monthly for one and a half hours to review project work, advocacy needs, and partnership opportunities.
• We ask that members commit to attending 80% of our monthly meetings per year (and any committees they join) and respond with timely email votes or input as needed.
• Board terms are three years in length.
• The DOCD has a working board, participation in projects is greatly encouraged but not absolutely required.
