About DOCD

The Downtown Olympia Creative District (DOCD) formed in 2025 and is a 79-block certified cultural and creative district rooted in connection, belonging, and economic opportunity.

What We Do

Home to more than 125 creative industries, more than 70 public murals, and a rich culture of arts and community activism, the DOCD is a supportive coalition of organizations, businesses, and individuals.

The DOCD aims to:

  • Promote and celebrate creative businesses and artists with visibility and infrastructure
  • Facilitate connections among creative enterprises, industries, artists, non-profits, and residents.
  • Strengthen the downtown economy by attracting visitors, jobs, and creative entrepreneurs
  • Enhance place-making through public art, performance, and cultural programming
  • Celebrate Olympia’s creative identity and deepen community connection through collaborations and partnerships

Our Mission

The Downtown Olympia Creative District cultivates opportunities to support the community in order to strengthen a vibrant, collaborative, and thriving creative economy.

Our Vision & Values

We envision an inclusive and dynamic downtown Olympia where artists and the creative sector engage with educational institutions, civic leaders, local businesses and regional partners to foster a vibrant cultural experience for all.

We Value equity, connection, and a culture of compensation for creatives.

Creative Businesses & Makers

The 30 blocks of the Downtown Olympia Creative District include a mix of creative businesses from curated retail spaces, award-winning local breweries and coffee shops (and roasters!), and arts organizations, many housed in former warehouses and industrial structures.

Arts & Performance Venues

Downtown is home to several independent theaters including the historic Capitol Theater, Washington Center for the Performing Arts, Harlequin Productions, and several all ages and 21+ venues that host live theater productions, music, comedy, and even aerial performances.

Public Art & Murals

The Creative District features more than 70 large murals that celebrate a long legacy of visual art in our downtown, dozens of hosted art installations (including sculptures and statuary), two growing museums, and many rotating public art installations that feature our local artists.

Adaptive Reuse & Historic Buildings

Many of the district’s spaces are warehouses, older industrial or historic buildings repurposed for creative uses. For example, the Olympia Armory Creative Campus is a project converting a historic armory into multi-use arts space.
