Paige Anderez

I am an Olympia-based* interdisciplinary artist whose work centers on the concepts of home and earth, within us and around us. Before entering the tattoo world, I worked in ecological fieldwork and community-based research, which taught me how to listen deeply—to people, to patterns, to place. Those same principles now guide my visual art and creative practice.

My work also lives at the intersection of memory, domesticity, and the unseen labor of care. Rooted in motherhood and shaped by a lifelong negotiation of emotional, physical, and creative space. I find myself drawn to the beauty in the world around us, at home and in nature.  I am inspired by the ebb and flow of estuaries, in particular. In all of my routines and work, I explore what it means to build a home within impermanence.

Pulling on my background in ecology, with a BA in Environmental Studies from Western Washington University and graduate studies in Landscape Ecology at The Evergreen State College, I am also a member of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators Northwest and provide art direction at Nisqually Reach Nature Center. In the near future, you'll be able to see my illustrations at Feiro Marine Life Center.

For a long time, my practice as a working artist revolved around production sewing and quilt + embroidery pattern writing, and I had work carried in over 75 stores domestically and internationally. Now, I only sew for fun, and occasionally exhibit quilts in shows and galleries, and sometimes teach hand sewing classes at Wyldwood Creative. My tattoo work often reflects sewing and quilting, as well, and I have traveled to tattoo during events like QuiltCon and Camp Craftaway.

I tattoo at Lowlands, my studio in downtown Olympia, WA. When I'm not creating art, you'll find me sketching plants trailside or overturning rocks on the beach with my kiddo.

If you'd like to work together outside of my tattooing practice, please reach out. I'm open to opportunities and particularly interested in licensing illustrations for surface pattern design, illustration freelance projects, teaching craft classes, and writing about the natural world.
