Death Dancer is a nonprofit in Olympia, WA, that creates creative cultural and sacred spaces around themes of death, dying, loss, and living. As part of our offering to the local community we are opening a new community space, named 'The Edge', for dialogue and integration around the topic of mortality — expect a mix of visual art displays, an art workshop space, a gathering and performance space, and reflective memorialization activities.
The Edge is a community hub for all things related to death, dying, loss and living, a welcoming shared space to hang out and connect with others, a place to embrace our death and grief experiences. We collaborate with local artists, therapists, and death professionals to offer end of life education, awareness, and advocacy. In our experience, having a place to connect to and access to a community of people when grieving; when living with a terminal illness; or when just wanting to explore these themes in open conversation, makes a huge difference to individuals and families. Our particular emphasis is using art as a vehicle for these conversations as art is often a softer language that helps us to connect with our emotions and life experiences. All of our events are open to anyone as we will all die and we all grieve.
